Chardonnay is the most popular, highly valued and widely grown variety of white grapes, second only to the red Cabernet Sauvignon variety. Originally from Burgundy (France), it has adapted successfully to very different locations. The characteristics of the Chardonnay grapes can create rich, dense and full-bodied wines that can be laid down, as well as young wines that are lighter, fresher and are not oaked. Chardonnay wines are long-lasting, smooth and perfectly balanced on the palate, and are full of different hints and notes including fruit notes of apple, citrus fruit, melon, pears and apricot, as well as wax, honey, caramel, toffee and mineral hints.
